Drive-System, PROFIBUS,
and DRIVE-CLiQ Diagnostics

Drive and Communication Faults Need a Methodical Trace

A drive alarm tells you where the machine noticed a problem, not always where the problem started. The cause may sit in the drive, the motor, the feedback device, the cabling, the network, or the mechanics the axis moves. Founders CNC provides CNC drive diagnostics that trace the fault through each of those systems. That trace matters most on intermittent faults, which can disappear before anyone sees them.

Our team works with PROFIBUS diagnostic equipment and DRIVE-CLiQ systems, and we diagnose drives on machines with HEIDENHAIN, Siemens, FANUC, and Mitsubishi controls. That work includes drive tune-ups when axis performance has declined.

How CNC Drive Diagnostics Work

  1. Tell us what the machine is doing

Send the machine make, model, serial number, control type, drive alarms, and what happened immediately before the fault appeared.

  2. We decide whether remote access can help

Some control, drive, and communication faults can be evaluated through remote support when safe access is available. Failed hardware, damaged cabling, and mechanical causes require onsite work.

  3. We trace the fault

Our technician works through the drive, motor, feedback, communication, and mechanical systems to narrow the likely cause. Each system gets checked, so the diagnosis rests on evidence.

  4. We repair and verify

After approval, we complete the work and verify axis behavior with the appropriate diagnostic and measurement tools. A cleared alarm is only part of the job, since the axis must behave correctly under load.

Why Does My Drive Alarm Keep Coming Back?

A recurring drive alarm often means the earlier repair addressed the symptom. Intermittent communication faults, a degrading feedback device, or mechanical load on the axis can all trigger the same alarm. CNC drive diagnostics look past the alarm number to the condition behind it.

Why Industrial Networks Support Better Diagnosis

Industrial networks carry status and diagnostic information between a control and the devices connected to it. According to PI North America, the trade organization behind the standard, PROFIBUS supports better diagnostics than the analog wiring it replaced.

That diagnostic information helps our technicians separate a network fault from a drive, motor, or feedback fault. Our PROFIBUS diagnostic equipment reads that information directly at the machine. When axis performance is the concern, a ballbar test can reveal positioning and servo-performance characteristics through our machine tool calibration service.

Frequently Asked Questions About CNC Drive Diagnostics

Which drive systems do you work on?

We troubleshoot drives and communication networks on machines equipped with HEIDENHAIN, Siemens, FANUC, and Mitsubishi controls. That work includes PROFIBUS and DRIVE-CLiQ systems, along with the motors and feedback devices connected to them. Send the drive alarm numbers with your request so we can prepare.

Can you diagnose a drive fault remotely?

Sometimes. Remote access can shorten diagnosis for certain control, drive, and communication faults when safe access is available. Failed hardware, damaged cabling, and mechanical causes require a technician at the machine. The remote review can help define the onsite visit when one is needed.

What is a drive tune-up?

A tune-up addresses drive and axis performance that has declined over time. We evaluate how the axis behaves, identify what changed, and correct the settings or components involved as part of the approved scope. A preventive maintenance program can include drive diagnostics on a regular schedule.

What warranty applies?

Founders CNC provides a 30-day labor warranty. New and refurbished parts carry the applicable manufacturer or supplier warranty. The estimate you approve before work starts defines the labor and parts that coverage applies to, so the terms are clear from the beginning.
